A quick refresher on Tongits winning conditions — whether you're a seasoned player or just getting started at jiliparty.

Tongits (Declare)

Meld all your cards into valid combinations — sets (three or four of a kind) or runs (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit). When your hand is empty, declare Tongits and collect the full pot immediately.

Draw (Stock Pile Runs Out)

If the draw pile is exhausted before anyone declares Tongits, all players count their remaining card points. The player with the lowest total wins. Aces count 1 point, face cards 10 points.

Fight / Challenge

Any player with a meld on the table can call a Fight at any point. All players reveal remaining cards and the lowest total wins. Timing this right is one of the key skills in Tongits — it can save you from a bad hand.

Sapaw (Lay Off)

Add cards to another player's existing meld on the table. This lowers your hand count and can prevent your opponent from declaring Tongits by forcing them to hold onto unneeded cards longer.

Burned Hand (Koripap)

If a player holds all the same suit or all face cards from the deal, they can reveal a burned hand immediately and collect double points from each opponent. It's rare — but when it happens, grabe ang saya.

In Tongits, the game uses a standard 52-card deck. The dealer receives 13 cards; each other player (2 opponents) receives 12 cards each. The remaining cards form the draw pile in the centre of the table.

A valid meld is either a Set (three or four cards of the same rank, e.g., three Queens) or a Run (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, e.g., 5-6-7 of Hearts). Melds are placed face-up on the table once declared.

Yes — calling a Fight before an opponent's turn is one of the most strategic moves in Tongits. If you suspect your opponent is about to declare and your hand count is lower than theirs, calling Fight can let you win without waiting. Timing and reading your opponents is everything.
